How Independent Retailers can offer flexible pricing to compete and grow
Independent retailers across the UK can often feel overshadowed by larger multinational chains with deeper pockets and complex pricing strategies. At Intelligent Retail, we believe powerful tools should not be reserved for big business. That is why Connect EPOS includes features designed specifically to help independents compete confidently and profitably.
One standout feature is Price Books
Price Books give retailers the flexibility to offer multi-level pricing with ease. Instead of being limited to one standard retail price, you can create multiple pricing structures that suit different types of customers. For example, Price Book A might hold your standard retail prices. You could then create Price Book B with prices set at five percent less, and Price Book C at ten percent less. The structure is entirely in your control.
What makes this feature particularly powerful is how seamlessly it works at the till. Customers can be assigned within your pricing matrix, meaning that when they come into store and are applied to a transaction, Connect immediately recognises their status. As products are scanned, the system prompts you to select the appropriate price book, and the discount is applied. Perhaps the customer is a loyal trade client who has spent significantly with you this month. You can simply select Price Book B and the system automatically updates the selling price to reflect the agreed level. This is applied per product, so not all products need to be included within a price book, if your margins are already tight for a particular item, it will appear at your recommended retail price defined in Price Book A, while other products within the transaction can have the special pricing applied from Price Book B
There is no need for manual calculations, no awkward adjustments and no risk of inconsistency. It is fast, accurate and professional.
Who finds the Price Books feature useful?
This functionality is especially valued in sectors such as DIY, hardware and plumbing merchants, where trade pricing and customer specific discounts are part of everyday business. However, the potential uses go far beyond that. From rewarding loyal customers to managing special agreements or bulk buyers, Price Books give independent retailers a practical way to build stronger relationships while protecting margins.
With Connect EPOS from Intelligent Retail, independents gain the tools to compete on their terms, with flexibility that works in the real world.
